The telecom department has to see the exact implication of Supreme Court's verdict on Aadhaar with reference to mobile companies, said Aruna Sundararajan, telecom secretary.

“We will have to get a legal opinion on what exactly is possible and what is not possible," Sundararajan said.

After getting legal opinion the department will sit down with telecos and it is easy for the citizens to get on board for a mobile SIM with Aadhaar but at the same time we are strictly in accordance with what the apex court has stated, she said.

The five-judge bench of Supreme Court on Wednesday upholds the constitutional validity of Aadhaar but it has struck down certain provisions of the Aadhaar act. Now, Aadhaar is not mandatory for mobile connections.
