07:04 AM EDT, 08/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- New York Times ( NYT ) will have to face a new trial in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's defamation lawsuit over a 2017 editorial after the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals said the trial judge Jed Rakoff made errors in presiding over the case, a court document dated Wednesday shows.

Palin claims the newspaper defamed her in the June 14, 2017 editorial, titled "America's Lethal Politics", which incorrectly linked her to a January 8, 2011 political shooting that killed six people and injured thirteen others, including Democratic US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

The New York Times ( NYT ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
