Newmont Gets $100 Million Payment as Ghana Ratifies Akyem Lease

09:43 AM EDT, 08/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Newmont ( NEM ) said Friday it received a $100 million payment from Zijin Mining after Ghana's parliament approved the renewal of the Akyem East mining lease, completing the terms of Newmont's ( NEM ) sale of the Akyem operation.

The company said the total after-tax proceeds from the Akyem divestiture are about $770 million.

Newmont ( NEM ) said it now expects to generate $3.1 billion in after-tax cash from its 2025 asset sales program, including $2.6 billion from sold operations and roughly $470 million from equity stake sales in Greatland Resources and Discovery Silver.

The company said it plans to use the proceeds to reduce debt and return funds to shareholders.
