Nvidia Isn't the Only Way to Play AI
May 31, 2024 6:46 AM

09:23 AM EDT, 05/31/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia ( NVDA ) remains the dominant play in AI in the near-term, but there are other ways to play the AI story, according to The Compound and Friends podcast on Friday morning. Host Josh Brown says Nvidia ( NVDA ) "will become larger than Apple ( AAPL ) " on a market cap basis. What some people miss about the company is the recurring revenue nature of Nvidia's ( NVDA ) software business. It's more similar to Apple ( AAPL ) than most people think because of that embedded user base that is growing exponentially, said Brown.

Podcast guest Stephanie Link, chief investment strategist with Hightower Advisors, says she doesn't own Nvidia ( NVDA ), but she's playing the AI trade with other stocks like Broadcom ( AVGO ) and Lam Research (LRCX). Link notes the AI buildout is ravenous for memory, and the market needs six times the memory of what it is using today. That's why she sees Lam Research as the second half of this year's story.

Link also suggests cybersecurity "is equally as big as AI." She owns Fortinet ( FTNT ) and hosts Brown and Michael Batnick point to Crowdstrike ( CRWD ) as best in breed alongside Pal Alto Networks (PANW).

Chief technology officers are spending on two things, says Link, AI and cybersecurity. That spend is coming at the expense of stocks like Salesforce.com (CRM) and other enterprise software companies, she added.
