12:46 PM EDT, 03/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Olaplex ( OLPX ) has agreed to be acquired by Germany's Henkel in a roughly $1.4 billion deal, sending the US haircare company's shares soaring Thursday.

The German chemical and consumer goods firm will pay $2.06 per Olaplex ( OLPX ) share in cash, representing a nearly 55% premium over the company's Wednesday closing stock price.

Olaplex ( OLPX ) shares were up 51% in Thursday afternoon trade.

"This step is a testament to the momentum we've achieved in our transformation and the significant opportunities ahead for Olaplex ( OLPX ) to continue shaping the future of hair health and pursue long-term growth," Chief Executive Amanda Baldwin said in a Thursday statement.

Separately, Henkel CEO Carsten Knobel said the deal allows the German firm to expand its presence in "premium hair care."

Advent International, which is the controlling shareholder in Olaplex ( OLPX ) and has backed the company since 2019, will fully exit its investment at the deal's completion.

Following the transaction's close, expected as soon as the second half of the year, Olaplex ( OLPX ) will no longer trade on the Nasdaq. It will continue to operate under its existing name and brand.

Earlier this month, the company reported fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of $0.01 a share, unchanged from a year earlier. Sales improved 4.3% year over year to $105.1 million. At the time, the company said it expected 2026 sales of $414 million to $435 million.
