06:18 AM EST, 02/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- OpenAI announced Sunday that it has launched a new AI tool called 'deep research,' designed to perform multi-step research on the Internet for complex tasks.

The company said the tool is powered by the upcoming OpenAI o3 model, which is optimized for web browsing and data analysis. It added that the tool allows users to prompt ChatGPT, which gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes information from online sources, including text, images, and PDFs, to create a comprehensive research report.

OpenAI acknowledged the tool's limitations and said it may struggle to distinguish authoritative sources from rumors and sometimes lacks accurate confidence calibration, leading to uncertainty in its responses.

Deep research is available on the web version of ChatGPT and will be rolled out to mobile and desktop apps during the month.
