OpenAI to Acquire Astral

09:58 AM EDT, 03/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI said Thursday that it will acquire Astral, which builds open-source developer tools.

No financial details were disclosed.

OpenAI said Astral will remain a separate company until the transaction's closing, after which it will be housed under OpenAI's Codex team.

The acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, the company added.
