07:46 AM EDT, 05/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR), known as Petrobras, said in a regulatory filing Tuesday its appeal of a tax assessment of roughly 987 million Brazilian reais ($192.7 million) on the sale of oil derivatives has been dismissed by Brazil's Superior Tribunal de Justica.
The case involved compliance with court injunctions, granted in favor of distributors and gas stations, which the company said prevented it from withholding taxes from on sales of CIDE-Combustibles from March 2002 to October 2003, Petrobras added.
With the court's decision, the petroleum giant is required to pay the taxes.
Petrobras said it is considering whether an appeal can be lodged against the STJ's decision.
