06:26 AM EDT, 06/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Pony.ai (PONY) said Friday it is beginning public road tests of its seventh-generation robotaxis in China.
The vehicles, now testing on roads in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, are based on Guangzhou Auto's Aion V model equipped with Pony.ai's latest autonomous driving system, the company said.
The new autonomous driving system uses 100% automotive-grade components, reducing bill of materials costs by 70% compared to previous designs and allowing for faster adaptation in multiple models, the company said.
It is equipped with six types of mass-produced sensors and uses Pony.ai's sensor cleaning system for bad weather and rough environments, the company said.
The new AI software model uses reinforcement learning to achieve "safety standards exceeding human capabilities," the company said.
