PPL Signs Agreement for Federal Funding of Up to $72 Million From US Department of Energy

04:34 PM EDT, 09/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- PPL (PPL) said Thursday it has signed an agreement with the US Department of Energy's Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations for a federal fund of up to $72 million for a carbon dioxide capture research and development project at the company's natural gas combined-cycle plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

The company said it has received the first tranche of funding valued at $4.9 million to start phase 1 activities.

The carbon capture project, a more than $100 million investment developed with the University of Kentucky and others, will be hosted at PPL's Cane Run station operated by Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas and Electric, the company said.
