** National Bank of Canada ( NTIOF ) is acquiring Canadian
Western Bank ( CWESF ) in a pending stock-swap deal that values
the Edmonton-based bank at $5 billion.
** Ontario's $225 million deal to allow beer, wine, cider
and premixed drinks to be sold in convenience stores, big-box
outlets and additional supermarkets has disrupted talks with
workers at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, raising the
prospect of a strike at the provincially owned booze retailer.
** McGill University is offering amnesty to pro-Palestinian
protesters encamped on its downtown campus if they leave by the
end of the week, while also exploring divesting investments in
arms makers who protesters say are aiding Israel's war efforts
in Gaza.
