09:50 AM EST, 03/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- RTX (RTX), through its Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines business, Tuesday said it was making an additional investment in its rotating detonation engine after recently completing successful testing at the RTX Technology Research Center.
The company said it now expects to work with the US Department of Defense to accelerate integrated engine and vehicle ground testing in the coming years.
The new rotating detonation engines use a different thermodynamic cycle than standard turbojet or turbofan engines, resulting in a small, compact and cost-effective engine with no moving parts while improving thermal efficiency and performance, the company said.
