Schnucks will acquire a Wisconsin-based grocery chain and its 51-store footprint next month.
On Tuesday, the Schnucks family announced that its newly formed company, St. Louis-based The 1939 Group Inc., has agreed to buy Skogen’s Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers Inc.
Skogen’s Festival Foods has 42 stores throughout Wisconsin. Hometown Grocers includes nine banners including Dave's County Market, Denny's Supervalu, Don's Quality Market.
Schnucks said that it will maintain these existing store brands and welcome more than 8,000 associates to the company, bringing the Schnucks workforce to 19,000 people.
“Schnucks, Skogen’s Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers share a strikingly similar set of core values, tracing our success to decades of consistently focusing on the communities we serve, the values we share and the ongoing quest for excellence in grocery retail,” Todd Schnuck, CEO of Schnuck Markets Inc., said in a statement.
Schnucks, Skogen’s Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers will continue to work from their existing headquarters and operate as three sister companies. Skogen’s Festival Foods’ and Hometown Grocers’ offices are in Onalaska and Green Bay, Wisconsin, respectively.
“Our focus has always been on treating every customer like a guest, supporting the growth of our associates who make that experience possible and giving back to the communities we serve,” Mark Skogen, CEO of Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers, said in a statement. “With Schnucks’ shared commitment to nourishing lives, this transition will help expand our impact and continue our tradition of community support across the Midwest.”
The deal is expected to close in October.
Schnucks was founded in St. Louis in 1939 and operates 113 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
