01:34 PM EST, 12/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising Thursday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.4% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) adding 0.9%.

In corporate news, American Airlines ( AAL ) shares surged 16%. The company updated its Q4 adjusted EPS outlook Thursday to a range of $0.55 to $0.75, up from the previous forecast of $0.25 to $0.50. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect $0.39.
