Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Advance Premarket Thursday

09:24 AM EDT, 08/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were advancing premarket Thursday, with the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) and Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) up 0.2%.

Dollar General ( DG ) stock was up more than 3% after the company reported higher fiscal Q2 earnings and net sales, and raised its fiscal 2025 guidance.

Burlington Stores ( BURL ) shares were up more than 8% after the company posted higher fiscal Q2 adjusted earnings and total revenue, and increased its fiscal 2025 outlook.

JD.com ( JD ) has appointed HSBC ( HSBC ) and Standard Chartered to raise a euro-denominated loan for its proposed acquisition of German electronics retailer Ceconomy, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. JD.com ( JD ) shares were down nearly 3% pre-bell.
