06:49 AM EST, 12/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Shell (SHEL) has shut down one of the oil processing units at its energy and chemicals park at Pulau Bukom to investigate a suspected leak, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said Thursday.
The authority said Shell had informed it and Singapore's National Environment Agency that a few metric tons of refined oil were leaked along with the discharge of seawater used to cool the refinery.
The statement said Shell has laid containment and absorption booms and sprayed dispersants in the suspected discharge area. The maritime authority said it and Shell have deployed boats to clean up oil sheens. "No oil patches are currently observed in the vicinity of Pulau Bukom," the maritime authority said.
Shell did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
