03:52 AM EDT, 06/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Shell (SHEL) said Thursday it is not actively considering a takeover of BP (BP), putting an end to recent speculation about a possible deal between the two oil majors.

The company said it has not made any approach to BP, and no talks have taken place.

On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Shell has held early-stage talks to acquire BP.

"In response to recent media speculation Shell wishes to clarify that it has not been actively considering making an offer for BP and confirms it has not made an approach to, and no talks have taken place with, BP with regards to a possible offer," Shell said in a statement.
