08:39 AM EDT, 07/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Siga Technologies ( SIGA ) said Friday it received a roughly $113 million order from the US Department of Health and Human Services for the oral antiviral drug TPOXX, or tecovirimat.
The company said HHS exercised a procurement option under a current contract for the delivery of the medicine, which is approved in the US to treat smallpox.
The project is supported with federal funds from the HHS, Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, and Strategic National Stockpile, the pharmaceutical company added.
Siga's ( SIGA ) stock was more than 7% higher in recent Friday premarket activity.
