04:06 PM EDT, 09/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Soma Gold ( SMAGF ) was closed down 8.6% after the company on Tuesday said Sintramienergetica, Seccional Zaragoza, the union representing the employees of its Operadora Minera unit in Colombia are on strike.
The company said it recently offered a contract that included "significant increases" in wages, benefits, living allowances, additional time off and a signing bonus, that was rejected by the workers. Operations for both Soma's Cordero Mine and El Bagre Gold Complex are now suspended.
"While we are disappointed by the decision to strike, we respect the union's rights and remain open and available to resume discussions at any time. We have proposed binding arbitration as a path forward, which was declined by the Union," chief executive Geoff Hampson said
Soma Gold ( SMAGF ) shares closed down $0.12 to $1.27 on the TSXV.
