03:39 PM EDT, 07/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Stellantis ( STLA ) plans to offer voluntary buyouts to salaried employees in a bid to reduce operating costs amid a recent slide in sales, according to media reports on Tuesday, citing an internal email sent to eligible employees.
The offer is available to nonunion employees. The email did not specify how many employees may be affected, but left open the possibility of laying off workers if attrition and voluntary separations do not reduce costs by a sufficient amount.
"As Stellantis ( STLA ) continues to address inflationary pressures and, importantly, provide consumers with affordable vehicles at the highest quality, we remain focused on taking the necessary actions to reduce our costs," the company said in the statement to the news outlets. "One of those actions is offering a voluntary separation package to US employees in certain functions."
The company did not immediately respond to MT Newswires seeking a copy of the email sent to employees.
