01:30 PM EDT, 09/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Maple Leaf Foods ( MLFNF ) said last Friday that it is proceeding with the spin-off of Canada Packers., which will be completed on Oct. 1. The record date for the transaction is Sept. 30th.
Stifel Canada is valuing Canada Packers at $20 a share, under analyst Martin Landry's base case scenario, which assumes normalized pork market conditions and an EBITDA of $200 million, and applying a ~5x multiple.
Landry expects some pressure on the shares in the coming days as Maple Leaf investors may monetize their positions quickly. "However, Canada Packers' expected dividend of $25-30 million could provide support, representing a yield of 4.7% under our base case."
Stifel's valuation of MFI post the spin-off is expected to be ~$35.70. Landry also expects Maple Leaf to hold an investor day in the coming months which should provide more visibility on the earnings power of Maple Leaf as a standalone company.
Maple Leaf Foods ( MLFNF ) is rated Buy, with a $40.50 price target.
