12:31 PM EST, 01/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) faces an investigation involving about 2.59 million vehicles with "Actually Smart Summon" autonomous driving feature following crash reports, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
The agency said its Office of Defects Investigation received a complaint involving a Tesla vehicle operating in "Actually Smart Summon" that allegedly crashed as it failed to detect posts or parked vehicles. At least three media reports of apparently similar incidents have been reviewed.
"ODI is aware of multiple crash allegations, involving both Smart Summon and Actually Smart Summon, where the user had too little reaction time to avoid a crash, either with the available line of sight or releasing the phone app button, which stops the vehicle's movement," the safety administration said.
The agency said it hasn't received any reports of such crashes from Tesla.
The company didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
Tesla shares fell 4.1% in recent Tuesday trading.
