Tesla Releases Video Showing Progress of Optimus Robot Amid Blowback
Oct 17, 2024 12:10 PM

11:03 AM EDT, 10/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) released Thursday a short video showing progress of its Optimus robot project amid questions about the humanoid machine's level of autonomy.

The clip, which has been posted on X - the social media platform that was taken private by Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk in 2022 - shows Optimus walking around in a factory while avoiding people and obstacles and performing several tasks.

Optimus was also featured at Tesla's robotaxi event last week, with media reports saying that the robots that interacted with attendees were actually controlled by remote human operators. This raised questions about Optimus' capabilities, according to the reports.

Musk personally approved the video, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Tesla did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of the company were down 0.7% in recent trading.

Price: 219.72, Change: -1.61, Percent Change: -0.73
