Toyota Motor Develops New Hydrogen Fuel Cell System

01:50 PM EST, 02/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motor ( TM ) said Friday it has developed a third-generation hydrogen fuel cell system that offers the same durability as diesel-powered engines.

Compared with the previous version, the new fuel cell system is up to two times more durable and 1.2 times more fuel efficient, the automaker said, adding that the improved fuel efficiency allows for 20% additional cruising range.

The new system, which will be expanded for use in heavy-duty commercial vehicles, is expected to be launched after 2026 at the earliest in markets mainly in China, Europe, Japan, and North America, Toyota ( TM ) said.
