Toyota Motor Halts Some Shipments Amid Safety Scandal in Japan

09:09 AM EDT, 06/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motor ( TM ) said Monday it has temporarily halted shipments of some vehicles after Japan's Transport Ministry found irregularities in its certification applications.

"We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this may cause to our customers and stakeholders who have placed their trust in Toyota ( TM )," Toyota ( TM ) said in a statement.

The affected shipments include the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross, the company said.

Toyota ( TM ), Mazda Motor, and Yamaha Motor were ordered to suspend shipments after the ministry found they submitted incorrect or manipulated safety test data in their applications for certain models.

Honda Motor ( HMC ) and Suzuki Motor were also found to have submitted inaccurate safety test data, according to the ministry.

The investigation of the companies will continue, according to the ministry.

Toyota ( TM ), Honda ( HMC ), Mazda, Yamaha, and Suzuki did not immediately respond to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
