Toyota Motor Unit Daihatsu to Streamline Development and Certification Reporting
Apr 8, 2024 6:38 AM

09:24 AM EDT, 04/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motor ( TM ) unit Daihatsu Motor said Monday it plans to streamline its reporting process on development and certification to the parent company to overcome a safety test certification scandal.

Daihatsu, which has redefined itself as a "mobility company centered on mini vehicles," said Toyota ( TM ) will oversee the entire process for compact cars, from development to certification, and it will be commissioned "to handle the actual development."

The changes include dissolving the Emerging-market Compact Car Company, which has served as a bridge between Toyota ( TM ) and Daihatsu, the company said.

Separately, the Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand saw a 27.5% increase in orders, with Toyota ( TM ) leading sales with 8,540 orders, Reuters reported Monday, citing show organizers.

Electric vehicles accounted for approximately 32.8% of car orders, compared with 21.5% in the previous event, the report said.

Toyota ( TM ) shares were up more than 1% in Monday US premarket activity.

Price: 243.6, Change: +2.86, Percent Change: +1.19
