06:58 AM EDT, 10/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motors (TM) said Wednesday it signed a joint development deal with Sumitomo Metal Mining for mass production of cathode materials for all-solid-state batteries for electric vehicles.
The technology targets smaller, higher-output packs that can enable longer range and faster charging, with Toyota ( TM ) aiming to debut BEVs using the cells in 2027-28, it said.
Using Sumitomo Metal Mining's powder synthesis experience, the companies developed a "highly durable" material to limit degradation from repeated charge-discharge cycles, the company said.
Shares of the company were down by more than 1% in recent Wednesday premarket activity.
