07:49 PM EDT, 06/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- President Donald Trump accused California Democrats of rigging ongoing vote counts in the state's gubernatorial and Los Angeles mayoral races, without providing evidence, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
Trump's claims drew a swift rebuke from Governor Gavin Newsom, who said the president was lying about California, the report said.
With about 62% of ballots counted, Republican Steve Hilton led the gubernatorial race with nearly 28%, ahead of Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer, while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass held a lead in the mayoral contest but fell short of the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff, the report added.
