WASHINGTON, Feb 11 (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation
Administration said two runways at Reagan Washington National
Airport have reopened after a fatal Jan. 29 collision killed 67
people and the agency is boosting the maximum hourly flight
arrival rate.
Reuters first reported last week the FAA had reduced the
maximum arrival rate from 28 to 26 aircraft per hour after a
U.S. Army helicopter collided with an American Airlines ( AAL )
regional jet, citing safety risks and the two closed smaller
runways. The FAA noted Tuesday the regular maximum hourly
arrival rate is 32 planes per hour at Reagan and helicopter
restrictions imposed after the incident remain in effect.
