UK Competition Authority to Assess Whether Global Payments' Acquisition of WorldPay Will Reduce Competition
Jul 1, 2025 6:12 AM

08:41 AM EDT, 07/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's Competition and Markets Authority said Tuesday that it will explore investigating whether the anticipated acquisition by Global Payments ( GPN ) of WorldPay Holdco will reduce competition.

The competition regulator said it will assess whether this acquisition, if allowed, will result in a significant reduction in competition within any market or markets in the UK for goods or services.

The CMA said it has issued preliminary 'invitation to comment' to allow interested parties to submit to the CMA any initial views on the impact that the transaction could have on competition in the UK.

The CMA said it has not yet launched its formal investigation into this transaction. This "Invitation to Comment" is the first part of the CMA's information-gathering process and will end on July 16, it added.
