12:03 PM EDT, 04/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's Investigatory Powers Tribunal has declined the UK government's request to hide the basic facts of Apple's ( AAPL ) anti-privacy case due to national security interests, according to a Monday court document.
In January, the UK's Home Office issued a "technical capability notice" to Apple ( AAPL ), which asked the company to grant access to iPhone backups.
The IPT rejected the government's request to keep the basic facts of the case secret, ruling that disclosure does not threaten public interest or national security, according to the court document.
A short public judgment was released alongside a longer confidential ruling, and the IPT plans to issue further instructions once both sides have reviewed the judgment, as per the court ruling.
Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
Shares were down 5% in recent trading.
