08:29 AM EDT, 09/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- United Airlines (UAL) CEO Scott Kirby said Tuesday the carrier plans to hire more than 2,500 employees at Newark Liberty International Airport between 2025 and 2026 amid an operational turnaround at the airport.
United also said it will be the first airline to purchase sustainable aviation fuel for use at Newark, with plans to buy up to one million gallons from Neste this year.
The airline plans to serve more than 160 domestic and international destinations from Newark this fall and winter, including new flights to Rome, Venice, Porto, Marrakesh, and Dublin, the company said.
Kirby said that improving travel demand going into the fall indicates that the economy may be stronger than current statistics show, Bloomberg reported.
