03:15 PM EDT, 03/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- UnitedHealth Group ( UNH ) said Monday it advanced more than $2 billion to medical providers following a cyberattack on the company's Change Healthcare unit in late February.

The company said it had restored Change Healthcare's electronic payments platform on Friday and was following up Monday with the release of medical claims preparation software.

Meanwhile, a US official estimated on a call with health insurers that the cyberattack cost the health-care system hundreds of millions of dollars, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the discussion.

Insurance executives and US health officials believe the worst of the crisis is over, and the industry was heading toward normal operations, Bloomberg reported.

Shares of UnitedHealth Group ( UNH ) fell 0.8% in recent trading Monday.
