Update: Alibaba E-Commerce Platforms Reportedly to Add Tencent's WeChat Pay Option

Alibaba Group Holding's ( BABA ) e-commerce platforms Taobao and Tmall will allow shoppers to choose Tencent Holdings' e-wallet WeChat Pay as a payment option, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

Alibaba ( BABA ) didn't state how quickly the option would be made available to users, Reuters reported.

The WeChat Pay option will be in addition to Alipay of Ant Group, which is an affiliate of Alibaba ( BABA ).

"We have always adhered to the concept of 'interconnectivity' and collaboration," a Taobao and Tmall Group spokesperson said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.

Tencent didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
