Update: Amazon Labor Ruling Calls Mandatory Anti-Union Meetings Unlawful
Nov 14, 2024 6:52 AM

09:26 AM EST, 11/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Amazon's ( AMZN ) response to a request for comment in the last paragraph.)

The National Labor Relations Board issued a decision Wednesday in a case involving Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Services unit, ruling so-called captive audience meetings in violation of labor laws.

The board said that an employer that requires employees to attend meetings in which the employer expresses its opinion on unionization is in violation of the National Labor Relations Act.

"This decision ignores over 75 years of precedent, contradicts the express language of the NLRA, and violates the First Amendment -- it's wrong on the facts and the law, and we intend to appeal," Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson Mary Kate Paradis said in an emailed response to MT Newswires.
