Update: Amazon's Motion to Dismiss FTC Antitrust Case Denied in Part
Oct 7, 2024 6:12 PM

03:42 PM EDT, 10/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with comment from Amazon's ( AMZN ) spokesperson in the third paragraph.)

Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) motion to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit brought by the Federal Trade Commission and several states was denied in part and granted in part by US District Judge John Chun in Seattle, court documents revealed Monday.

Chun denied Amazon's ( AMZN ) motion to dismiss claims under the Sherman Act and the FTC Act, granted in part and denied in part dismissal of state-law claims and granted a motion to bifurcate.

Tim Doyle, Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesman, told MT Newswires that the FTC's claims of how consumers shop on Walmart (WMT), Target (TGT), Amazon ( AMZN ), and eBay (EBAY) for household products is not consistent with how they actually shop. "The truth is that Amazon's ( AMZN ) practices are good for competition, consumers, and the small- and medium-sized businesses that sell in our store, while the FTC's approach would make shopping more difficult and costly," Doyle said.

The FTC did not immediately reply to the request for comment from MT Newswires.
