A plane tire explosion at a Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) operations facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday left two Delta team members dead and another injured, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

A tire exploded as it was being removed from a Delta plane, but the cause of the explosion wasn't immediately clear, the New York Post reported.

"The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility," the airline said in a statement, according to reports. "We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time."

Delta reportedly said it is working with local authorities and conducting an investigation to determine what happened.

The airline didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
