The European Union Aviation Safety Agency, or EASA, will propose that the US Federal Aviation Administration act as an observer during safety audits, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing EASA Executive Director Florian Guillermet.

Guillermet told Reuters that next week, he will be in Washington for talks with the US aviation regulator, the report said.

One of the proposal's objectives is to get reciprocal arrangements with FAA audits of Boeing ( BA ) planes, according to the report.

An EASA representative confirmed to MT Newswires that Guillermet spoke to Reuters Tuesday on the fringes of the Berlin Aviation Summit, while Boeing ( BA ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

The FAA said it is teaming up with the EASA to advance aviation safety at a conference to be held in Washington from June 11 to 13.
