Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) is testing facial recognition technology for its corporate security, CNBC reported Wednesday, citing a document describing the program it viewed.
The company is conducting initial test at one of its sites in Kirkland, Washington. Interior security cameras have been collecting facial data and comparing them with images stored from employee badges to prevent unauthorized access to Alphabet's campuses, according to the report.
The data will help identify security risks to Google's ( GOOG ) people products or locations, and will not be stored, CNBC reported. The employees can opt out of having their ID images stored.
ID badge images are part of the test and won't be used in the future, Google ( GOOG ) told CNBC.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
