Update: Market Chatter: Reddit Sues 4 Firms Over Alleged Data Theft by Scraping Google Results
Oct 23, 2025 9:34 AM

12:29 PM EDT, 10/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Oxylabs' response in fifth paragraph and latest Reddit ( RDDT ) stock movement in the last paragraph.)

Reddit ( RDDT ) filed a lawsuit in federal court against four companies for allegedly stealing data by scraping Google search results that showed Reddit ( RDDT ) content, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

The lawsuit filed at the US District Court for the Southern District of New York is seeking a permanent injunction and financial damages against Nvidia ( NVDA )-backed (NVDA) Perplexity, and data scrapers SerpApi, Oxylabs and AWMProxy, according to the report.

SerpApi, Oxylabs, and AWMProxy allegedly sold data to artificial intelligence companies, the report said, citing the filing.

A SerpApi spokesperson told MT Newswires that the company "strongly" disagrees with Reddit's ( RDDT ) allegations and intends to defend itself in court.

"Oxylabs' position is that no company should claim ownership of public data that does not belong to them," a company spokesperson told MT Newswires. Oxylabs will defend itself against Reddit's ( RDDT ) allegations, the spokesperson added.

Reddit ( RDDT ), AWMProxy, Perplexity and Nvidia ( NVDA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of Reddit ( RDDT ) were up over 2% in recent Thursday trading.
