Meta Platforms ( META ) said Tuesday it will end its fact-checking program in the US and replace it with a Community Notes model.

The company added it will launch the Community Notes program in phases in the US over the next couple of months.

With the new model, users will decide about "potentially misleading" posts that require more context to help prevent "biased" ratings, the tech giant said.

"Experts, like everyone else, have their own biases and perspectives. This showed up in the choices some made about what to fact check and how," Meta Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan was quoted as saying.
