Update: Tesla Sued Over Alleged Failure to Adhere to Clean Air Act at California Plant
May 14, 2024 8:41 AM

11:26 AM EDT, 05/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with details throughout.)

Tesla (TSLA) has been sued by the Environmental Democracy Project, a nonprofit organization that asserted the electric vehicle maker's Fremont, California, factory violated the Clean Air Act "hundreds of times" since the beginning of 2021, a court filing showed Monday.

"Tesla has exposed residents and workers in the area surrounding the Fremont factory to excess amounts of air pollution, including nitrogen oxides, arsenic, cadmium, and other harmful chemicals," according to the complaint. "These exposures are extensive and ongoing."

The Environmental Democracy Project is seeking an injunction to halt excess pollution, plus civil fines of up to $121,275 per day for each Clean Air Act violation, according to the filing.

Tesla didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
