Update: Uber Sues Personal Injury Lawyers Alleging Insurance Fraud
Jul 21, 2025 9:11 AM

11:36 AM EDT, 07/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with details from court filing throughout.)

Uber Technologies ( UBER ) is suing a group of personal injury lawyers and medical providers who it alleges have made fraudulent insurance claims against the company that have forced Uber ( UBER ) to spend millions in legal fees, a case filed with the Central District of California showed.

Uber ( UBER ) alleges in the filing that lawyers "direct claimants to pre-selected medical providers to receive procedures for minor or nonexistent injuries." The company added that following the said treatment, artificially inflated bills are generated for insurance claims.

"The unnecessary medical treatments, fraudulent medical records, and fraudulent and misleading medical bills" have enabled law firms to attempt to induce significantly larger settlement payments out of Uber ( UBER ) in personal injury lawsuits, the company said.

This lawsuit is intended to "recover the full extent" of the millions of dollars of harm from the resulting defense costs and settlements, it said.

Uber ( UBER ) has named the Downtown LA Law Group, Igot Fradkin, The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani, GSK Spine, Greg Khounganian and Radiance Surgery Center as defendants in the lawsuit.
