Update: Walmart to Pay $1.64 Million to Settle Charges of Inaccurate Unit Pricing of Groceries
Jun 18, 2024 3:08 PM

05:59 PM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with statement from company)

Walmart ( WMT ) agreed to pay $1.64 million in civil penalties and other charges to resolve allegations by the New Jersey Attorney General and other state agencies for using inaccurate unit pricing for groceries sold at 64 stores, state officials said late Tuesday.

The settlement includes a $1.61 million civil penalty, one of the largest ever levied by New Jersey's Office of Weights and Measures, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in a statement. State law in New Jersey requires grocery stores to display standard units of measurement such as pounds, quarts, or per-count numbers so consumers can make better-informed purchases.

In an emailed statement to MT Newswires, Walmart ( WMT ) said it believed a settlement would be in the "best interests of all involved."
