02:04 PM EST, 01/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US airlines canceled nearly 1,900 flights by Monday afternoon amid disruptions caused by Winter Storm Blair.
Some 1,886 flights within, into or out of the US were canceled, while thousands were delayed, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
A "major disruptive" winter storm will affect the area from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic Monday, resulting in severe travel delays, the National Weather Service said in an update posted on its website.
By Tuesday evening, light snow is forecast to expand into parts of the Central and Southern High Plains, the agency said. "Additional upper-level energy will come onshore over the Pacific Northwest Tuesday evening into Wednesday," the National Weather Service said. "The new energy will create light coastal rain and higher-elevation snow over parts of the Pacific Northwest."
Among major US carriers, 432 Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) flights were canceled, while 681 were delayed. American Airlines ( AAL ) saw 190 cancellations and 664 delays. The cancelation and delayed tallies for United Airlines (UAL) reached 100 and 476, respectively, while Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) saw 49 cancellations and 281 delays, respectively, FlightAware data showed.
Southwest ( LUV ) said in a travel advisory issued on its website that its scheduled service may be disrupted from Saturday through Tuesday due to the storm.
"We are preemptively managing our schedule to match reduced capacity at airports affected by Winter Storm Blair," the carrier said in a statement e-mailed to MT Newswires.
Impacted customers can rebook without change fees, Southwest ( LUV ) and American Airlines ( AAL ) separately told MT Newswires.
Delta canceled "several" flights in advance of the storm, a company spokesperson said in a statement to MT Newswires. "We will resume service when the weather and operating conditions allow." The company has issued a travel waiver for certain cities across the central US, according to a Sunday statement posted on its website.
United Airlines has waivers in place for impacted passengers, the company told MT Newswires. "Our operations team continues to monitor the weather developments in the central US and Mid-Atlantic."
