Apr 25, 2024 3:30 AM

06:08 AM EDT, 04/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- U.S. wholesale electricity high prices decreased by a range of 67% to 92% in February from the previous month at selected trading hubs and set a 12-month low in Louisiana, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported in its Electricity Monthly Update released on Wednesday.

Total net generation rose 3.6% in February compared with the same month last year to 320,280 thousand megawatt-hours (MWh) in Feburary. Retail sales also increased 4.1% to 302,543 thousand MWh.

Electricity system daily peak demand highs during the month dropped by a range of 1% to 28% at selected electricity systems from January to February due to mild temperatures across the U.S., the EIA said.

Coal consumption fell 3.7% to about 26 million tons year-over-year while natural gas consumption rose 5% to 936,436 Mcf, the agency reported.
