Viasat, Rocket Lab Collaborate on Data Relay Services for LEO Satellites

11:18 AM EST, 03/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Viasat ( VSAT ) said Thursday it partnered with Rocket Lab USA ( RKLB ) under which the latter would support Viasat's ( VSAT ) NASA's communications services project program demonstrations by developing a spacecraft bus.

The partnership aims to demonstrate low-latency, data relay services for low-Earth orbit satellites.

The demonstrations fall under the company's awards from NASA which are evaluating commercial satellite communications services and technologies. The demonstration mission is anticipated to be launched in early 2026, Viasat ( VSAT ) said.

Rocket Lab will also offer Frontier, a new L-band radio, for demonstrations of different time telemetry, tracking and command applications.

Financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed.
