07:11 AM EDT, 06/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- A Virgin Australia Boeing (BA) 737-800 jet made a safe emergency landing in the New Zealand city of Invercargill after a fire shut down one of its engines, multiple media outlets reported Monday.
Stuart Aggs, Virgin Australia's chief operations officer, told The Associated Press the cause of the incident might have been "a possible bird strike" and there were no immediate reports of physical injuries to guests or crew.
Flight VA 148 took off from the Queenstown Airport bound for Melbourne, Australia, with 67 passengers and six crew members, the outlets reported.
