M&M sales up 10 percent##M&M sales up 10 percent

Mahindra & Mahindra said its February vehicle sales rose 10 percent to 56,005 unit, compared to 51,127 units a year ago. Domestic auto sales rose 9 percent year-on-year to 52,915 vehicles in February 2019. The passenger vehicles segment reported a 17 percent YoY growth at 26,109 vehicles. February sales for commercial vehicles showed a marginal growth at 21,154 vehicles against 20,946 vehicles in February 2018.

India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India reported a marginal decline in total sales at 1,48,682 units in February, compared to 1,49,824 units in February last year.

Domestic sales were up marginally at 1,39,100 units last month as against 1,37,900 units in the year ago month, it added.

Sales of mini cars, including Alto, were at 24,751 units as compared to 33,789 units in February last year, down 26.7 per cent.

However, sales of compact segment, including models such as Wagon R, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, were up 11.4 per cent at 72,678 units as against 65,213 units in February last year, the company said.

Mid-sized sedan Ciaz sold 3,084 units as compared to 4,897 units in the same month a year ago.

Utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga were up 7.4 per cent at 21,834 units as compared to 20,324 units in the year-ago month, MSI said.

Exports in February were down by 19.6 per cent at 9,582 units as against 11,924 units in the corresponding month last year, the company said. (PTI)

Ashok Leyland said February vehicle sales rose 0.4 percent year-on-year to 18,245 units. Domestic sales rose 1 percent to 17,352 units, while M&HCV sales declined 3 percent to 13,291 units.

Ashok Leyland shares slipped as much as 2.02 percent, but soon recovered to trade at Rs 85.04 per share, down 0.5 percent, at 11.34 AM.

Escorts says sales in agri machinery segment up 12 percent

Escorts said its agri machinery segment sold 7,240 tractors in February, up 12 percent from 6,462 tractors sold in the same month last year. Domestic tractor sales in February rose 9.9 percent at 6,918 unit, compared to 6,295 tractors in February 2018. Export increased 92.8 percent to 322 tractors compared to 167 units last year.

Bajaj Auto reported strong vehicle sales growth for February 2019, driven by exports, beating analyst expectations. The company’s sales rose 10 percent to 3.93 lakh units in February, compared to 3.57 lakh units in same month a year ago.

Nomura had expected sales of 3.88 lakh units.

February exports rose 19 percent year-on-year to 1.71 lakh units and domestic sales were up 4 percent at 2.21 lakh units. Total motorcycle sales grew 10 percent to 3.27 lakh vehicles, while 3-wheeler sales gained 8 percent to 65,104 units in February.

Rakesh Sharma, ED at Bajaj Auto told CNBC-TV18 that the product mix has altered favourably during the month. "January & February saw 45 percent revenue contribution from premium motorcycles. We are focussing on expanding the premium motorcycle category," he said in an interview.

"Margin will be impacted positively if premium portfolio expands and will be aided by positive forex impact April onwards," he said, adding quantum of discounts have come down.

At 10.42 AM, Bajaj Auto shares traded 0.58 percent up at Rs 2,913.35 per share on the BSE
