The Naukri JobSpeak Index has shown a month-on-month recovery in hiring, but is down year-on-year.

Hitesh Oberoi, MD & CEO of Info Edge India and Manish Sabharwal, Chairman of TeamLease Services discussed the hiring trends, in a conversation with CNBC-TV18.

Info Edge runs an online job portal Naukri.com, a real estate classifieds platform 99Acres.com, among others. TeamLease offers a variety of temporary and permanent staffing solutions.

Sabharwal said one should not confuse a rebound with recovery.

“There were stock depletion in some industries like fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), fast-moving consumer durables (FMCD), they are hiring. But there are many professions which cannot be done with social distancing (restrictions) and they are not back,” Sabharwal added.

According to him, there was no challenge for FMCG to find labour. “Labour is not a binding constraint anymore, demand is,” he said.

Info Edge’s Oberoi said a there was a lot of demand for digital skills in IT companies, and start-ups were back in action.

Speaking about real estate, he said there was a pick-up in demand for residential properties, but that a lot of restructuring was expected in commercial real estate.
